Empowerment

Empowerment is the process of gaining the confidence, strength, and means to make choices and take control over one’s life. It involves increasing individuals’ or groups’ autonomy and decision-making capacity, enabling them to achieve their personal, social, or economic goals. Empowerment can occur at various levels, including personal empowerment, where individuals build self-esteem and agency, and community empowerment, where groups work together to influence social change or improve their conditions. This concept often emphasizes the importance of skills development, access to resources, and fostering an environment that supports individuals in realizing their potential and asserting their rights. Empowerment is commonly associated with movements advocating for social justice, gender equality, and human rights, as it seeks to dismantle barriers that limit individuals’ opportunities and contributions.
