Tennis

Tennis is a racket sport played between two players (singles) or two teams of two players each (doubles). The game is contested on a rectangular court divided by a net. The objective is to hit a ball over the net and into the opponent’s court, aiming to score points by making it so the opponent cannot return the ball in accordance with the rules. Points are scored when the opponent fails to return the ball within the designated court boundaries. Tennis matches are played in sets, with players winning sets by being the first to win a predetermined number of games. The scoring system uses unique terms like “love” for zero, “deuce” for a tied score, and “advantage” for a lead after deuce. Tennis can be played on various surfaces, including clay, grass, and hard courts, each of which can affect the speed and style of play. It is governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is a popular sport worldwide, featuring prominent professional tournaments such as the Grand Slam events: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open.
